from concept to craft

Before a VIA VAI shoe comes to life, it goes through an intense and creative journey. Long before the first line is ever drawn, our designers dive deep into trends, materials, and sources of inspiration from around the globe. Only then does the real design work begins – by hand, at the drawing table in Waalwijk.

From idea to finished product: behind every shoe lies craftsmanship, vision, and an eye for perfection. Curious what that looks like? Let us take you behind the scenes.

where it starts

fashion capitals

This is where it all begins. More than a year before a collection hits the shelves, our designers travel to the world’s top fashion capitals. From Milan to Copenhagen – cities renowned for their fashion scenes. Global trends come alive at major fashion events and international trade fairs. And the streets themselves? An endless source of inspiration. From power women strutting through the city to shop windows radiating a unified vibe – City streets are the real runways.

visualize

moodboards

Brimming with inspiration and fresh ideas, our designers begin visualizing the trends and influences. Striking images are carefully curated into moodboards and divided into themes. Each theme is unique, with its own clear aesthetic – defined by specific colors, materials, shapes, and designs. Fashion plays a key role in guiding this process. To create a bold, fresh vision, we start with clothing trends and design shoes that are the ultimate finishing touch.

brand values

our via vai dna

With all the major fashion trends mapped out and visualized, it’s time for one of the most essential parts of the design process: selecting the trends that align with the heart of VIA VAI. We do this in our own unique and contemporary way. What fits our brand? What do we stand for? And what do we want to express? We translate the biggest trends to suit both our DNA and the preferences of the Northern European market.

time to draw

sketches & designs

Designing a new collection begins at our drawing table in Waalwijk. Still done the traditional way: by hand, with pencil and paper. Each model starts with up to eight detailed sketches. We aim for perfection down to the finest detail. Whether it’s an eyelet, a zipper, or a tongue label – every element is carefully considered to create a truly unique result. And so, the shoe-love story begins…
